Most firms treat AI as a side project. That's why it fails.

Every organization I advise has an AI initiative. Very few have an AI strategy. The difference is whether the work is attached to a P&L, an owner, and a decision that changes because of it.

A pilot that never touches the operating model is not a pilot. It is a press release with a runtime. The firms getting real leverage are boring about it: they pick three workflows, instrument them, and measure the hours and errors removed.

If your AI roadmap can be deleted without changing next quarter's plan, you do not have a roadmap. You have a hobby with a budget line.
